Square Foot Garden - April - May 2008

Garden Update June 22, 2008 | Garden Update July 12, 2008

April 8th, 2008

Finished putting together my shelf on wheels.

Getting more seedlings put under the lights.

Building boxes, getting prepared for the square foot garden.

May 4th, 2008

The start of my square foot garden experiment.

After digging out a sidewalk, tilled up along this 40 feet of fence to have room for 5 more boxes.

Still need to finish filling the boxes.

Still working on filling and getting the strings put on.

Have a few things planted.

Getting this fence line ready to plant.

May has been so cold.

Built a couple mini green houses to protect some of the plants from freezing.

Just a view from the front.

Got the fence put up and the connecting boxes.

Will use those for squash and melons.

May 16th, 2008

Here's an overhead shot taken from on top of the garage. I got a lot more things planted.

June 12th, 2008

What a difference a few weeks makes!!

The only tomato plant I bought

Hoping to have some early tomatoes from this one.

The garden is doing so well even Nikky, our lab, is rolling over in utter joy!!

Another view from the front.

You can see our grass seed here isn't doing so well yet.

View along the other fence line.

Cabbage plants

Just put another dusting of Garden Guard on today.

Pole Beans

Some are starting to find their way up the fence.

The patio tomatoes are nice and bushy. In the front are the shallots, they seem to be coming along nice.

Here are some more pole beans, eggplants and roma tomatoes.

Here are some squash or zucchini, I forgot to write down what I planted here!!

Here are the carrots. They still need some thinning. The smaller ones are the ones I had to replant.

My herb bed. The dill is really getting big. I've been picking lots of parsley and cilantro.

The potatoes are really huge. It's too late to hill them. I don't know if I'll get much from them or not. Maybe a few small ones.

Here is one of the onion beds.

This is a mix of beans, mustard greens, and collards. Oh and one pepper plant in the lower right hand corner because my okra didn't come up.

Here are the rest of the onions and some beets. You can kind of see here how the heavy rains kind of messed up my onions. The first 4 squares are my garlic.

Here is my salad bed. Swiss chard, spinach, lettuce and radishes.

Look here, I think I might get a jalepeno pepper.

The strawberries are really growing. I'm still picking off the buds so they don't produce this year.

Some more salad and cauliflower. In the center I'm finally getting some asparagus shooting up.

My cukes still have a ways to go.

The rhubarb in the center is doing well. I just planted 4 more roots last week. Looks like they'll be coming up shortly.

My container roma tomato is doing quite well.

A patio tomato.

My other patio tomato.

My peas took a beating the other night. Some of them actually broke off. I tried to tie them up.

The moss roses are starting to take off and filling in the pots.
